Creative communities

We are delighted to have a wide range of beautiful handcrafted items on offer from Australian makers, as well as from communities in Bali and India.

These communities each have their own rich history and culture, and specialised skills, practices, and methods unique to their area. The people of these communities strive to keep their craft alive, and our goal is to support them by showcasing their work.

Why Australian?

Partnering with Australian creators and suppliers is helping us to achieve our mission! Supporting local creators, artists, and business, helps individuals and is also helpful to our economy, which is helpful to Australians in general.

This also helps us to reduce our carbon footprint through a reduction in transportation resources, while also streamlining the delivery process.

We are always on the lookout for Australian artists, creators, craftspeople, suppliers, and business owners. If this sounds like you, and you're interested in possibly selling your products through our store, please feel free to drop us a line, or reach out for a chat. Our details are available on our Contact page.

where it began

Sumak was founded in January 2023, by Susan Mackell, who was influenced at an early age by the creative people around her.

Having spent most of her adult life studying and working in the fields of interior design, graphic design, and communications, she has had many opportunities to admire and learn from brilliant creatives, including from her skilled and talented friends and family members.

"Seeing the people around me create, not just with their hands but also with their minds and hearts, has always been a huge source of inspiration."
- Susan Mackell
